INTERIOR DESIGN IDEAS FOR FALL
The leaves are changing colors, the sun is setting sooner and a slight chill in the air hints that the fall season has arrived. Finally the kids are back in school, leaving you a little extra free time at home. This is a great time to be creative with your autumn decorating projects. It doesn’t take much to transform your house into a welcoming and comfortable environment with a few simple changes and decorations. Fall decorating can be simple, easy and cheap; there is no need for expensive or elaborate designs. Store away the summer gear and pull out the fall and winter decorations. Baskets, pine cones, thick, soft colorful linens, and your favorite candles will help turn your house into a warm and cozy home.
Fall Interior Design Tips
Colors:
It is time to store away all of the bright summer colors and bring out the colors that will help you relax. Soft shades of red, orange, and yellow will automatically increase the perceived “warmth” of your house. Although the actual temperature may not be affected, the warm colors make people feel cozier in general. You do not need to take drastic measures like repainting the inside of your house to accomplish the cozy effect.
Inside decorations:
Fall and thanksgiving centerpieces are staple decorations this time of year. Create your own wreath with mums, twigs, leaves, and other items easy to find in your nearby forest or even your yard. For your tables, mantles, and countertops, decorating with a colorful platter will impress your family and guests. Use fresh fruit and flowers, pears and oak leaves, dried corn and pumpkins, or pine cones and branches to create a masterpiece at the center of your home. It can be as simple as setting out fresh, colorful apples in a basket to add a touch of fall to your décor. A great way to fill any empty space or add a nice touch of fall to your house is to use mini pumpkins all around your home. Use them in your centerpiece, on plant holders, in bedrooms, on your mantle, or wherever you need a little extra color.
Mantle decorations:
A lot of families spend their spare time at home in the living room, where a centerpiece should be located on your mantle. You can easily dress up the mantle by laying down a fall base color fabric like dark green or brown and begin layering it with decorations. Use plenty of mini pumpkins and search for leaves, pine cones, and twigs that can be found around your house. Then set up candle holders that compliment your fall colors such as brass, wood, or silver. Acorns, beaded fruit, and decorative pots can also be thrown in if you have extra space to fill or want to get creative.
Warm Textiles:
An easy trick that can bring out that warm and cozy feeling you’re going for is to switch out the textiles in your house. Thick curtains with a soft autumn color will protect you from the cold and also give your home a warm look and feel. A very easy adjustment is adding or changing your tablecloths to match the fall decorations around your house. You will be surprised by how cozy the atmosphere becomes with a few sheets of soft colored fabric. Simple decorations such as new fall-colored throw pillows on the couch, curtains, and blankets will make a big difference. These easy adjustments will impress your guests this fall.
Lighting:
An aspect of interior design often overlooked; lighting can play a large role in how warm your house seems to you and guests. Lighting candles at night gives your home a flicker of orange light that will bring out the cozy feeling in everyone. Using desk and floor lamps at night that give off soft light combined with a red or orange lamp shade will change the color of your entire house without much effort and enhance your other decorations.
