BAREFOOT EXPRESS - From Your Computer to Mine, Affordable Design Advice at Your Fingertips
Barefoot Express is my latest e-design service which offers clients do-it–yourself custom designed spaces for a reasonable fee. Clients can pace their spending and work on as much or as little as they want with my assistance.
I typically work on large scope “Barefoot” interior design projects; however, I have developed Barefoot Express as an alternative service in response to the current economy to accommodate the overwhelming need for those clients who want my designer look but whose budget or time frame may not allow.
Barefoot Express is a new service whereby I personally create the design but the client is actively involved (because he or she is doing all of the legwork and later executing my design aesthetic).
Prospective clients EVERYWHERE can e-mail me and then purchase their goods via internet or more locally in order to execute the design plan.
How it works:
Clients are asked to respond to several design oriented questions and to send digital photos of the rooms they want to work on, complete with measurements and photos of the exterior of the home (I may be inspired by the outside of your home). Once I determine the client’s style and design concerns/challenges, I will create a master plan.
This master plan will include:
 Personalized design concept board (using color images, magazine tear sheets, etc) for inspiration- Detailed schematic furniture plan, drawn to scale, with specific furniture pieces selected and resourced, with attention given to your architecture and budget
- Book of specific fabric materials, wallpaper samples and paint, flooring and hardware – as well as window treatment recommendations
- A detailed list of shopping resources – local and on-line – for the design elements chosen
- A step by step explanation of how to pull the elements of the look together – clients can follow this as loosely as they want

What I need from the client:
- Measure the room
- Take digital photos – be sure to shoot locations of windows and doorways/doors
- Send inspiration – tear sheets from magazines so I know your personal design style – what you like and DON”T like – show me what rooms you admire, even if they are nothing like your room – take a pic at a friends home of one of the rooms she has that you love – send it to me – tell me why you love it – send me swatches of fabrics you may have been saving – send paint swatches you like (and don’t) – remember, the more you tell me, the more personal your design will be - I enjoy receiving your input – this is what makes the home “yours”
- Send photos and dimensions of existing furniture, accessories, rugs or art you want to include in the design – incorporating “treasured pieces” is a great way to individualize your space
- Completed design questionnaire
- Send payment!! This is required to start on your design.

Then what happens…
Once payment is received, I will begin to implement your palette and furniture plans and select each piece for the room. Most questions are handled via e-mail on an as-needed basis. A typical project should take about 6 weeks to complete. If you have ordered multiple rooms, the timing will be longer. I will always be up front with you about what is happening with your plan and how it is progressing. I do not want to rush a design but do want to turn it around to you timely.
Additional help is always available for an hourly rate once you have received your design, should you desire it.
Barefoot Express PLUS – this is for clients who want to implement trade only fabrics and furniture – I can accommodate this request with a 25% up charge to the net price.
What Barefoot Express costs
It is up to the client to decide how many rooms to design. Design fees are based on the average scope of design and size of room.
Living Rooms, Dining Rooms, Kitchens and Family Rooms generally require more design and therefore cost a bit more. Any custom elevations would be additional – please call my office for more information.

In response to today’s challenging economy, I have also created a means whereby clients desirous of design services can get the most out of working with me on today’s limited budget.
In addition to Barefoot Express (where clients get a professionally prepared design plan and implement it themselves) I am also offering phone and internet consultations whereby clients connect with me from their homes, via e-mail, discuss design challenges and immediately are presented with workable and affordable solutions over the phone. Clients can pay as they go on an hourly basis in exchange for instant design advice – just a click away. This service keeps good design within reach and within most every budget.
How it works:
Clients tell me about their spaces and challenges and then we work together online with e-mails, web cams and phone consultations – custom color and floor plans are created, furniture is selected and even wall coverings, window treatments and flooring can be discussed and finalized. Ultimately, my clients will have a beautiful solution which will fit their space, family and budget. We will work together to create a “to do” list and an “action plan” notebook which will enable the client to stay organized and help set the wheels in motion when they go shopping and meet with contractors.
Should the client decide they want additional assistance, I am here to help with as much detail as is necessary – I can take the design thru to installation. |
